SOURCES: Johan Anton's date and place of birth were on his tombstone. With that information a baptismal entry was found for him in the Lengerich parish records. He is also listed in Walter Tenfelde's book Auswanderungen und Auswanderer aus dem ehemaligen Kreise Lingen nach Nordamerika which gives the same birth and death information and parents' names. That entry also mentions Johan Anton's year of emigration and destination and says he married Oct 1, 1844 in Galena but does not give the wife's name. Her name was found in the Jo Daviess marriage listings on that county's GenWeb page. Information on the second marriage comes from the same source. The dates of birth and death for the wives was from their tombstones in St Mary's Cemetery in Galena. Cemetery information was also the source of information for several of Johan Anton's children (partial list.)

Anna Maria Theresia's month and year of birth were noted on the 1900 census and in Virginia's WCdb (as Busen.) Her probable place of birth was known from the passenger list of the ship Elaro. Lengerich parish records were checked and a corresponding birth/bapt entry was found there for Anna Maria Theresia. Her parents' names were taken from that record and they were the same as those of Anna Maria Catharine, a presumed sister also living in St Louis. Information about the children was from censuses and the WCdb. At least the first five were baptized at St Joseph parish.
