information about this emigrant. |
SOURCES: |
Helena's birthdate and parents' names were
known to family researcher Douglas Leith. Her probable place of birth was known from an
entry for her in the Osnabrueck emigration index. Aschendorf parish records were checked
and a corresponding birth/baptism entry found for her there. Her marriage was at St Peter
parish and the baptism of the child born in 1855 was also found there.

Elisabeth AHRENS was listed with J B WOLTERS
on the ship Ulysses and was the correct age to have been J B WOLTER's wife on the
1838-39 Father Helias Census. The mother's name on all baptism records for children of
Johan Bernard WOLTERS was given only as Elisabeth until 1851 when her surname, AHRENS,
appeared. Because the passenger list of the Ulysses said she was from Bassum
(Borsum), Aschendorf parish records were checked and a corresponding baptismal entry was
found there for Elisabeth. The parents' names listed above were taken from that record.
The first child, born ca 1836-37, is known from censuses. Children born 1839-45 were found
in Father Helias' records. Children born 1847-51 were baptized at St Peter parish.
