RESEARCHERS: Dave Halm who has this emigrant in his database based on Benedict's identification in the Tenfelde book
SOURCES: Benedict's parents' names and his date of birth were on his death certificate. His probable place of birth and emigration information was known from his family's entry on the the Passe list of emigrants from Wettrup, Lengerich to Wabasha, MN. The birth information was verified in Lengerich parish records. Information about his children and his death was found in Benedict's biographical sketch. Marriage information was taken from Dave Halm's database.
NOTE: incorrect information about Benedict is published in two sources:
(1) Walter Tenfelde, in his book Auswanderungen und Auswanderer aus dem ehemaligen Kreise Lingen nach Nordamerika, incorrectly identifies Caroline Welp's husband as Benedict Lager born Oct 23, 1842 in Lengerich, son of Johan Heinrich Lager and Theresia Albers.
(2) The 1920 Wabasha County biographical sketch of Benedict Lager gives his birthdate incorrectly as Mar 21, 1841.

Because many Lagers in the St Louis area came from Lengerich, that parish's records were checked and a corresponding birth/bapt entry was found there for Maria Theresa. Her children born in MO were known from St Joseph parish baptismal records and those born in IA from the 1860 census.

SOURCES: Theodore Johan's parents' names were on his marriage record in Lengerich. His date of birth (Sep 8, 1806) was on his tombstone and his age (66) was on his death record at St Francis of Assisi parish. This information allowed Theodore Johan and most members of his family to be identified in research done from Lengerich parish records. Theodor Johan's birthdate was taken from that parish's baptism records. The children born 1841, 45 and 46 are presumed to have died before the family emigrated since they were not on the passenger list of the ship Olbers. The younges child's birth information was taken from the 1860 census.

Although family sources indicated Bernard was born May 25, 1828 in Meppen, that information proved to be incorrect. His place of birth was in Amt Meppen, a district in Hannover, and not the town of Meppen. Bernard's parents' names were known from his marriage record at St Joseph parish and his month and year of birth were noted on the 1900 census. Because his parents and siblings were listed on the 1836 census in Helte, the Bokeloh parish records were checked and a corresponding entry was found there for Johan Bernard corresponding to the birthdate on the 1900 census.
