SOURCES: Anna Maria's approximate year of birth was known from her age on the 1880 census. The godparents of her children included several BACKERS-POLLMAN children, or their spouse, and an entry for that family in the book Auswanderungsliste fuer die fruehere Pfarrgemeinde Twist in den Jahren 1838 - 1910 nach Amerika included a daughter Anna Maria born in 1843. That birth information was verified in Twist parish records. Anna Maria's marriage and her chidlren's baptisms (at least through 1875) took place at St Francis Xavier parish.

An entry was found for Anna Angela in the same book, giving her date and place of birth and parents' names - indicating they were siblings. Anna Angela's emigration year was also given in that book and the emigration index in Osnabrueck listed, without age, as emigrating in 1859 and mentioned she had a brother in St. Louis.
